Diamondbacks Release Seth Brown
Briefly

Seth Brown has been released by the Diamondbacks following a performance downturn after a promising start to his career with the Athletics. After being drafted in 2015, he made his MLB debut in 2019 and became known for his power against right-handed pitching. He had a peak season in 2022 with 25 home runs but struggled in the subsequent seasons, with his OPS and wRC+ declining significantly. After failing to secure a regular role with the Athletics, he was designated for assignment, leading to his release by the Diamondbacks.
Brown, 33, played the first decade of his professional career in the A's organization. They drafted him in 2015 and promoted him for his MLB debut four years later.
Brown established himself as a solid platoon slugger in 2021, hitting 19 home runs with a .498 slugging percentage in 281 PA against right-handed pitching.
In 2023 and '24, his power numbers dipped despite hitting 14 home runs each year, ultimately posting a .676 OPS, a 91 wRC+, and -0.7 FanGraphs WAR.
He made the Athletics' Opening Day roster again in 2025, but started the year off hitting even worse than in the two prior years.
