Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman left Friday's game due to right quadriceps tightness and may face a stint on the injured list. Manager Alex Cora announced that Bregman will undergo an MRI and indicated that Bregman felt worse than he anticipated. In response to questions about replacing Bregman, Cora stated that the team would mix and match players and mentioned the importance of roster construction. Although Rafael Devers is currently performing well as a DH, Cora noted that the decision about moving players will be considered carefully, emphasizing consistency with season plans.
"I know the guy. He's raking. He's the best DH in the American League right now," Cora said. "If he keeps continuing to do this, he's going to be in the All-Star Game as the DH and going to win a Silver Slugger as a DH."
"There's a lot of guys in the conversation," Cora said. "Roster construction comes into play, guys in the minor leagues, how they fit the roster -- all that stuff."
