During the final round of the Masters, the pin placement at hole No. 16 was altered to honor Jack Nicklaus on the 50th anniversary of his fifth Masters win. Jim Nantz mentioned that 50 years ago, Nicklaus made a memorable 40-foot birdie putt at this hole, taking a crucial lead. Although the traditional pin location is more popular for seeing holes-in-one, the change was a respectful tribute to Nicklaus, whose six Masters victories remain unmatched in the tournament's history.
It's no wonder fans were initially upset. But a tip of the hat for one of the most legendary golfers of all time is a respectable move from the tournament's staff.
The 16th green is best known for the famous Sunday hole location just behind the left greenside bunker, a primary reason for 24 holes in one in the Masters.
