Brewers Outright Joel Payamps
Briefly

After passing through outright waivers unclaimed, Joel Payamps has been assigned to Triple-A Nashville following a recent designated for assignment (DFA). Despite having the option to reject this assignment, doing so would mean giving up his remaining $2.995 million guarantee. Payamps struggled in the current season with an 8.35 ERA over 18 1/3 innings. Previously, he had success as a reliable reliever, contributing significantly to the Brewers. His struggles this season and financial implications limited other teams from claiming him off waivers.
Payamps has enough service time to reject the outright assignment in favor of free agency, but doing so would require surrendering the rest of this year's $2.995MM guarantee.
Prior to the season, few would've predicted Payamps would be in a situation like this, given his solid performances in previous seasons.
The 2025 season has been a struggle for Payamps, with a disappointing 8.35 ERA over 18 1/3 innings and significantly reduced strikeouts.
Any team could've claimed Payamps, but most clubs are stingy about adding guaranteed money via waivers during the season.
