The Boston Red Sox are set to reactivate pitcher Brayan Bello from the injured list, ready for a start against the Seattle Mariners. To make room for Bello, reliever Zack Kelly will be sent to Triple-A Worcester. Bello, who had a right shoulder strain, struggled in rehabilitation, accumulating a 12-run ERA in 14 innings over four starts. Manager Alex Cora expressed confidence in Bello's ability, noting his improvement, including increased velocity and refined pitch action, while advising him to focus on consistency and avoid overexertion in his first outing back.
"I don't think it's as bad as the ERA says but I think it's a struggle confidence-wise right now," Kelly said after Sunday's loss.
"Obviously he's a big part of what we're trying to accomplish," manager Alex Cora said about Bello.
"I think he learned a lot throughout the season," Cora said. "Didn’t start it well. We reintroduced the four-seamer for lefties."
"Now he understands," Cora said. "So just go out there and pitch. That's the most important thing. Don't try to overdo it, especially in the first one."
