Red Sox reliever Liam Hendriks is nearing his return after recovering from elbow inflammation and extensive medical challenges, including Stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Scheduled to make another rehab performance for Double-A Portland, Hendriks has shown promising results so far, reaching 95 mph during recent outings. His manager, Alex Cora, anticipates his activation could happen over the upcoming weekend series against the White Sox. The experienced pitcher, who has a notable history of awards and saves, has not pitched in the MLB for about 20 months due to health issues and surgery.
Hendriks reached 95 mph with his fastball in his latest rehab outing Sunday for Triple-A Worcester. The righty has thrown 2 scoreless innings in his two rehab outings.
He missed most of 2023 battling Stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He returned to appear in five games for the White Sox before undergoing Tommy John surgery last Aug. 2.
