Daniel Johnson re-signed with the Astros on a minor league contract and will report to Triple-A Sugar Land. He had been designated for assignment and then elected free agency. Johnson started the season in Triple-A with the Marlins, was released in early April, and signed with Houston a couple weeks later. He was called up after injuries affected the Astros’ outfield and appeared in eight MLB games, recording two hits and two walks in 17 plate appearances. After Zach Cole returned from a broken toe, Johnson was replaced on the active roster. Johnson has played parts of five MLB seasons with under 200 career plate appearances, and he has a .191/.249/.306 line in 75 games. He has hit .255/.321/.448 in nearly 1,800 Triple-A plate appearances across seven campaigns.
