Liam Hendriks made his much-anticipated return to the MLB on June 9, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and subsequent Tommy John surgery. Despite giving up three hits, including a two-run homer, Hendriks expressed satisfaction with being back on the mound as a member of the Boston Red Sox. He noted some positives from the outing, such as inducing swings-and-misses and not feeling overly exhausted, while also acknowledging the need for performance improvement moving forward.
It was good to finally pitch in a big league game after so long.
Now I can say I've pitched for the Boston Red Sox, even though it was yellow.
There were some good things to take from it. There were some not so great things to take from it.
Swings and misses on sliders and curveballs and that sort of stuff was good.
