A new report highlights the substantial economic contribution of Massachusetts' Hispanic and Latino population, which accounts for 26% of the state's GDP growth from 2014 to 2023. Despite representing only 13.5% of the population, they are responsible for 60% of new job creation and are enjoying increases in education and income. The report, "¡Vamos Massachusetts!" by the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, emphasizes the necessity of investment to unlock further potential while acknowledging ongoing disparities in education and income that hinder overall progress.
Imagine the economic potential if we invested more," Eneida Roman, president and chief executive of We Are ALX, said.
We know that gaps exist in terms of wage gap and housing or education, but ... there's been a significant amount of progress and growth," said Pablo Suarez.
It's almost like a silent reality that Latinos are here and are contributing," said Roman.
Despite significant progress, gaps persist and, in some cases, have grown, costing the state economic productivity and revenue.
