"DPH confirmed that it will be leaving 112,000 square feet at 250 Washington St. this fall to move into 51,000 square feet across three upper floors at 100 Cambridge St., a privately managed tower known by its former name, the Saltonstall, that's already home to many state workers. The move, DPH officials said, is taking place because the lease at 250 Washington is coming up for renewal, and the cutback in space is expected to save the agency about $2 million a year."
"But the owner of the DPH building isn't even going to start looking for an office tenant. New York-based Ruben Cos. has filed plans with City Hall to convert the DPH space into 110 one- and two-bedroom rental apartments, and is seeking a property tax break through the city's office-residential conversion program to help pull it off. Of those units, 80 percent will be market rate, renting at $4.25 per square foot."
DPH will vacate 112,000 square feet at 250 Washington St. and relocate to 51,000 square feet across three upper floors at 100 Cambridge St., cutting office space to save about $2 million annually. The move affects about 800 employees and follows a DEP reduction that halved the downtown office footprint from 2021 to 2024.
