Wyc Grousbeck says Jayson Tatum not expected to play this season
"It's tough to answer that question in 45 seconds, but I think, for me, there's been bright spots, and getting back on the court and being able to participate in a basketball workout was definitely one of the more bright spots of this journey. It just felt really good to be on the court and dribbling the basketball, going through a workout, feeling like a basketball player again."
"I'm sure he does [want to play]," Grousbeck said of Tatum on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show". "Everybody knows exactly what's going to happen. We're not going to ever ask him to come back. We're assuming he's not coming back, and we're not even going to have any discussions about it. At some point, he's going to be ready to come"
Jayson Tatum ruptured his Achilles tendon during the Eastern Conference Semifinals in May but has resumed on-court activity, including dunking and participating in basketball workouts. Tatum describes the rehab as a long journey with bright spots and says getting back on the court felt like feeling like a basketball player again. There is league buzz connecting Tatum to a possible March return during the 2025–26 season. Boston Celtics leadership has tempered expectations, stating the team will not ask him to return, is assuming he will not come back this season, and will avoid pressuring discussions about his availability.
