Maine native Cooper Flagg, a top candidate for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, had an interview with the Boston Celtics during the NBA Draft Combine. While the Dallas Mavericks, who own the No. 1 pick, are likely to select Flagg, the Celtics have not entirely ruled out the possibility of acquiring him. Brad Stevens, the Celtics' head coach, noted the importance of the combine interviews for assessing talent not otherwise available. However, he emphasized that moving up in the draft to select either Flagg or fellow prospect Tre Johnson would be highly unlikely due to the substantial assets required.
"We can rank who we want to talk to and the people we know we can't get in to work out is how we decide who we want to talk to at the combine."
"I can't imagine but again, who knows? I wouldn't guess with us, no."
"Moving up to select Flagg or Johnson is highly unlikely. Such a trade would involve a substantial amount of assets."
