"For the second game in a row, Marco Sturm's Bruins had a chance to secure at least a point against one of the top teams in the NHL in the Vegas Golden Knights. Much like Boston's 4-3 loss to the Lightning on Monday, Sturm's club showcased plenty of resolve at T-Mobile Arena."
"A Bruins team seemingly destined to win games, 2-1, given their lack of establishing scoring talent, has shown a knack for staying off the ropes in back-and-forth shootouts. And after last year's team displayed a propensity for letting go of the rope in one-sided blowouts, Sturm's squad has displayed plenty of fortitude out of the gate - a promising sign ahead of a season with plenty of ups and downs."
The Bruins lost consecutive games to Tampa Bay and Vegas despite mounting late comebacks and scoring late in both contests. Jeremy Swayman delivered strong goaltending while the team repeatedly allowed easy breakdowns and too many goals. In Vegas the Bruins trailed 6-3 in the third, scored twice against Akira Schmid and chased an equalizer through the final 14:48. The team rallied from multi-goal deficits but failed to earn points. Consistent defensive mistakes and a tendency to play fragmented hockey must be corrected to turn resilience into regular-season wins.
