Bruins notebook: Charlie McAvoy inching toward return
"McAvoy has been out since suffering a broken jaw when he took a Noah Dobson slapper off the face on November 15. At the time, he weighed about 215 pounds but, thanks to the liquid diet he was on, he dropped to below 200 pounds. He said on Monday that he's been gaining it back bit by bit and that he was approximately halfway back to his original weight. He's been wearing a bubble and jaw protector in practice."
"A McAvoy return would present a good problem for Sturm. As the Pastrnak return sent Mikey Eyssimont to the press box for the time being at least, a defenseman would have to come out. The easiest thing to do would be to take out Victor Soderstrom, drop Andrew Peeke to the third pairing with Mason Lohrei and pair McAvoy with Hampus Lindholm."
Charlie McAvoy practiced leading the stretch and may return to the Bruins lineup against the Winnipeg Jets, but Coach Marco Sturm delayed the decision until Thursday. McAvoy suffered a broken jaw on November 15 and lost weight on a liquid diet, dropping from about 215 to below 200 pounds; he reports being approximately halfway back to his original weight and has been wearing a bubble jaw protector in practice. His return would force a defensive roster move, with options including benching Victor Soderstrom, moving Andrew Peeke to the third pairing, or pairing McAvoy with Hampus Lindholm.
