Bruins notebook: Brass hopes edge can overcome lack of scoring
"But we got guys that are going to be hard to play against. I think teams are going to circle playing against the Bruins and go 'Oh damn, we have to play against them tonight?' That's the type of lineup that we've put together, knowing that throughout the year we can add some offense somewhere,"
"Our specialty teams have to get better, they should be able to get better. There's no reason for them not to get better, so that's an area of improvement, being healthy on the back end and also goaltending. Those are areas I believe where we're going to improve upon. It's just a matter of making sure we keep the puck out of our net because it's going to be a little more challenge to score goals. But we're hoping to address that through the year as well."
Team leadership expects the 2025-26 Bruins to rely on defense, physicality, and goaltending rather than high scoring, accepting many low-scoring wins. Management prioritized bottom-six toughness, adding Tanner Jeannot, Mikey Eyssimont and Sean Kuraly while keeping Jeff Viel, and acquired only limited scoring beyond Viktor Arvidsson. Special teams and health on the back end are identified as areas for improvement. The roster may change during the season as offense is sought. The strategy centers on making the team hard to play against, limiting goals against, and addressing offensive shortfalls over the course of the year.
