Marco Sturm is beginning his first training camp as Boston's head coach and visited New England's practice at Gillette Stadium. Sturm noted the facility changes since his playing days and observed increased intensity as the season opener approaches. Sturm met Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and praised his energy, work ethic, and coaching style, noting parallels with Vrabel's playing career. Both coaches confront roster and rebuilding challenges: New England posted just four wins in consecutive seasons, while Boston finished 33-39-10 last season. Sturm expressed optimism about fan and media reactions to Vrabel and readiness among players at practice.
It was great. I mean, the first time I met him was today. Really good. Seems like a really good football guy, lots of energy, ready to work every day,
I remember him as a player, and I feel like that's exactly how he coaches, too. So I think the Patriots and us as fans - and the media - are going to be really happy to have a guy like that.
But, yeah, it's just nice for me to see - you can see already that it's getting a little bit more intense now. The season opener is pretty soon. ... You can tell guys are focused and guys are getting ready to go.
