Avs upset by Nathan MacKinnon ejection for goalie interference
"There's no chance that he hits the goalie if Nurse doesn't run into him. I don't care if he's injured or not injured, it's a severe crash or not a severe crash. It's not a penalty. If you put guys in your own goalie, it's not a penalty."
"Obviously you have to protect your goalies. It wasn't on purpose, but you have to be careful with goaltenders. Obviously, they lost a good player. The goalie's hurt, so it's five [minutes]? I really don't give a crap if their goalie's hurt. That's on their D-men, not on our guy."
During a power play with 37 seconds remaining in the second period, Nathan MacKinnon was pushed into Oilers goalie Connor Ingram by Edmonton defenseman Darnell Nurse. MacKinnon received a major penalty for goalie interference and an automatic game misconduct, which was upheld after video review. Ingram suffered a cut on his forehead and was replaced by Tristan Jarry due to concussion protocol. The Avalanche killed the five-minute major but lost 4-3, with Connor McDavid scoring the game-winning power-play goal. Coach Jared Bednar argued the penalty was unjust, stating MacKinnon would not have contacted the goalie without Nurse's interference.
