'We put up like 100 signs': DCR unveils latest plea for drivers to avoid getting 'Storrowed
"We put up like 100 signs all over the place, warning folks of the low clearance heights. Seriously, they're everywhere."
"You have to be able to see at least one of them to understand that yes, it does apply to you."
"Don't risk it, you'll just become a local meme for a few days and neighborhood children will hear the bang and come out to make fun of you as a state trooper patiently backs you out."
"Prove to everyone that you belong at one of Boston's very nice colleges by driving with clear eyes, full heart, can't lose ... the security deposit on your truck,"
Several area universities begin classes next week, making Labor Day weekend move-in time for thousands of students. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation warned drivers to take caution to avoid 'Storrowing,' when a truck becomes stuck or strikes the underside of a bridge. The highest-risk routes include Storrow Drive, Soldiers Field Road, and Memorial Drive. DCR emphasized visible signage, saying about 100 warning signs were posted and more than 40 high-visibility "cars only" signs were installed. Drivers were advised not to be cocky, to avoid shearing off truck tops, and to use height-aware apps like Truck Map and Hammer to reroute safely.
