U.S. Honor Flag to be deployed to Mass. for fallen trooper's memorial
"The United States Honor Flag will be delivered to Massachusetts as memorial tributes continue for fallen State Trooper Kevin Trainor. Trainor, 30, who served as state trooper for three years, was killed after responding to a wrong-way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield. The U.S. Honor Flag, which earned national prominence for flying at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks, will depart from Tampa, Florida, according to a statement from Christopher Heisler, president and CEO of The Honor Network. The flag is expected to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport early this week."
"The U.S. Honor Flag has a long-standing history with Massachusetts, Heisler said. Over the last two decades, it has been brought to the state for numerous events, such as the tribute for U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Nicholas Xiarhos of Cape Cod. Following services for Trainor, the gloves used in handling the flag will be presented to the Trainor family to continue its "tradition of honor and remembrance," Heisler said."
""Each deployment of the United States Honor Flag represents more than a ceremonial appearance," he added. "It is a rolling symbol of national unity, remembrance, sacrifice, and gratitude." Memorial services for Trainor are scheduled for this week, beginning with a wake at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Church in Salem."
"Road closures near St. James Church will begin several hours prior to the service to accommodate the thousands of local and state police officers expected to pay their respects, according to an advisory from the City of Salem. The ceremony is expected to include a rifle salute and helicopter flyover, city officials said."
