Roman Anthony injury: Craig Breslow gives discouraging update on rookie's return
"Being around him a little bit, you can see he's getting more comfortable,"
"When it first happened, you could look at him and tell that he was in quite a bit of discomfort and pain. That has subsided, but there's still quite a bit of room to get to in terms of baseball activities."
"If Anthony is cleared four weeks from the day of his injury, it would be Oct. 1, which would be Game 2 of a Wild-Card series for Boston."
Roman Anthony has been sidelined with an oblique injury since Sept. 3 and has not yet begun baseball activities as he recovers. Initial discomfort and pain have subsided, but significant progress is still required before resuming on-field work. The typical recovery timeline for an oblique strain is four to six weeks, and a four-week clearance would fall on Oct. 1, coinciding with Game 2 of a potential Wild-Card series. Anthony, a 21-year-old rookie, hit .292 with a .396 OBP, eight homers and 32 RBIs over 71 games, and the Red Sox have struggled offensively without him.
