Resurgent Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito says he's 'having a blast right now'
""I'm having a blast right now with these guys," Giolito told reporters, per MLB.com's Ian Browne. "Every single game matters. So it just kind of adds that extra edge each time you take the ball, especially the way our rotation has been going. It adds extra motivation to keep up and keep putting up good performances.""
""Finished on a high note, and luckily, we were able to score a few more runs there and keep Chappy out of it, which was good," he said, referencing the day off the team was able to give closer Aroldis Chapman. "Give him an off-day.""
""It's pretty cool," Giolito said. "Yesterday, I saw online that people were saying it was the anniversary, so I wanted to come out and ... you can't expect a no-hitter. But I was trying [for one]. I tried as hard as I could. It's very hard to pull off. You have to get lucky. But, yeah, overall, a solid [night].""
Lucas Giolito, 31, missed all of 2024 after an elbow procedure and returned in 2025 as a key starter for Boston. He improved to 9-2 after pitching eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Baltimore, lowering his ERA to 3.47. Giolito is settling into the club's third-starting role and expressed strong team chemistry and motivation given the rotation's performances. He sought a complete game and credited the offense for preserving closer Aroldis Chapman’s rest. Giolito also noted that Aug. 25 marks the anniversary of his 2020 no-hitter.
