Missing Boston hiker found dead on N.H. trail
"Kent Wood, 61, of West Roxbury, drove to the Lafayette Campground in Lincoln for a weekend of camping and hiking, beginning his hike amid warm temperatures and clear skies."
"Rescuers said Wood was prepared for warmer conditions and not for the 3 to 5 inches of snow that fell between Sunday and Monday in the Franconia Notch area."
"New Hampshire Fish and Game would like to remind hikers that it is still winter in the mountains with deep snow, precipitation, and freezing temperatures."
Kent Wood, a 61-year-old hiker from West Roxbury, was found dead in New Hampshire's Franconia Notch after being reported overdue. He had gone camping and hiking but was unprepared for the 3-5 inches of snow that fell over the weekend. His family notified authorities after not hearing from him for two days. A search was initiated, and Wood was discovered deceased approximately 5.5 miles from his vehicle on the Kinsman Pond Trail. Officials emphasized the importance of being prepared for winter conditions in the mountains.
