Sharon Lokedi won the Boston Marathon women's race for the second straight year, finishing in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 51 seconds. She took the lead entering the Newton Hills and increased her advantage. Loice Chemnung finished second, 44 seconds behind, while Mary Ngugi-Cooper placed third. Jess McClain achieved the fastest time ever for an American, finishing fifth. Both Lokedi and John Korir, who won the men's race, received $150,000 and a gilded olive wreath from Greece.
