Garrett Crochet threw seven innings against the Yankees, striking out 11, allowing five hits and one run in a 12-1 Red Sox win. Crochet reached 200 strikeouts in 26 appearances, joining Chris Sale, Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens as Red Sox pitchers to do so that quickly. Crochet has 207 strikeouts and a 2.38 ERA, placing him in the American League Cy Young race alongside Tarik Skubal. Crochet said focusing on the award has led to poor starts and that he is concentrating on finishing the season and preparing for the postseason. Brayan Bello followed with a strong start the night before, and the pair have formed a reliable 1-2 rotation punch. The Red Sox have won eight straight versus the Yankees and will attempt a four-game sweep with Dustin May starting the finale.
I feel like every time I've thought about it, I've had a real bad start to follow,
At this point in the year, it's continuing to press for the finish line and just prepare for the postseason.
I think it might be my third time following [Bello] in the rotation, and I gotta be on my A-game,
Because he's been throwing the ball so well. Just really trying to duplicate what he was able to do last night.
