John "Jay" Porter, a former Hopkinton deputy police chief, was sentenced to seven years in prison for the sexual assault of a minor. The assaults occurred over 2004-2005 while he served as a school resource officer. The victim, a 15-year-old student, initially sought out Porter for support, but their relationship turned sexual. The Middlesex County District Attorney condemned Porter's abuse of power, noting that he manipulated the trust placed in him by the victim. He was indicted and found guilty after being placed on administrative leave in August 2022.
"The defendant in this case abused his position of power to take advantage of and manipulate a child to gain her trust before sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions."
"One of the assaults took place when Porter volunteered to drive the victim home after she was excused early from school, according to the DA's office."
