Boston restaurant hit with brief license suspension after hosting Patriots players' raucous party
"When Boston police responded to a noise complaint at the restaurant shortly before 2:30 a.m., they purportedly found a private party raging in the basement, featuring several hookahs, bottles of liquor, $1 bills scattered on the floor, and at least three nude or partially nude women."
"While the board cleared Estella of selling liquor after hours, it found violations concerning indoor smoking, unauthorized adult entertainment, and after-hours liquor consumption."
"That being said, he either knew it was happening and ignored it or didn't know it was happening. Both of those are troubling to me."
Estella, a downtown Boston restaurant, faced a liquor license suspension following an after-hours party on January 27 attended by New England Patriots players and strippers. Police discovered the basement celebration featured hookahs, scattered cash, and nude or partially nude women. The Boston Licensing Board voted unanimously for a three-day suspension, with two days held in abeyance for one year. While the board cleared the restaurant of after-hours liquor sales, it found violations for indoor smoking, unauthorized adult entertainment, and after-hours consumption. Owner Helder George Brandao accepted responsibility but blamed the Patriots players for allowing the party to escalate beyond control.
