Boston frontman Tommy DeCarlo dies aged 60
"After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end. During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family's privacy as we grieve and support one another."
"I haven't heard anyone else sing like that in 35 years. Scholz is quoted as saying in a bio on the band's website, referring to DeCarlo's vocal abilities that impressed the founding Boston member enough to invite him to join the legendary rock band."
"The most scary time for me was when I walked into rehearsal and met them all for the first time. As I walked into the building where rehearsal was taking place, I could hear the sound of a kick drum in the distance. I walked through the doors and could not believe it—there was Boston rehearsing."
Tommy DeCarlo, who became Boston's frontman in 2007 following original singer Brad Delp's death, passed away from brain cancer on March 9, 2026. He was diagnosed in September 2025 after suffering a sudden brain bleed requiring emergency craniotomy. Doctors found two melanoma masses on his brain and one on his lungs. DeCarlo joined Boston after posting tribute songs and covers on MySpace, which caught founding member Tom Scholz's attention. Scholz invited him to perform at a Delp tribute concert, leading to his permanent band membership. DeCarlo transitioned from working as a credit manager at Home Depot to performing at major venues with the legendary rock band.
