Boston firefighters executed a technical rescue to free a man struck by a Blue Line train at Government Center station. The incident occurred around 11:10 a.m. after the man intentionally entered the train's right of way. The Boston Fire Department successfully extricated him, and he was transported to a hospital in serious condition but was conscious and speaking. The incident caused temporary delays on the Blue Line, already facing service interruptions, but regular service resumed shortly after 1 p.m.
The Boston Fire Department said its crews were able to safely extricate the man, who has not been publicly identified. According to Sullivan, the man was rushed to a local hospital for emergency care.
We made sure the power was secure and then went down and initiated efforts to extract him from the pit, Shaffer added.
It is my understanding the male was conscious and speaking at the time of transport, Sullivan added.
The incident temporarily delayed Friday service on the Blue Line, which is already in the middle of a nine-day shutdown between Wonderland and Airport stations.
