Tuesday brought summerlike conditions across the Boston area, with Boston’s afternoon high reaching 96°F and beating previous May record highs. Temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s, well above normal for mid May. Wednesday is expected to be a bit cooler, but conditions will remain very hot. Real relief is not expected until Thursday. Several locations set or tied record spring temperatures, including Boston tying for the hottest spring day on record and Providence setting a new daily high record. Afternoon storms are possible, so travel may be affected.
