South Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade, which attracted nearly one million attendees, saw increased law enforcement efforts to combat public drinking. Police arrested 17 people at or near the parade by 7 p.m., while Transit Police confiscated over 30 gallons of mixed alcoholic beverages, known as "borgs," within the first 25 minutes at Broadway Station. The parade followed a modified route beginning at Andrew Square to improve crowd flow and honor the 250th Evacuation Day. The MBTA operated shuttle buses and skipped certain stops due to heavy crowds. Residents filed multiple complaints about underage drinking, public indecency, and parties with loud music throughout the neighborhood.
