There's a book-drop scavenger hunt going on around NYC right now
"I wanted to launch in a way that felt true to noir, something that wasn't only a book promotion, but an interactive experience,"
"stumble across the books the same way characters stumble into trouble in noir, suddenly and without warning."
"Ken loved New York, visited here often and absolutely believed crime fiction belongs in the street, among everyday New Yorkers,"
"He would have loved the guerilla-style aspect of it."
Jason Starr turned New York City into a noir-inspired treasure hunt to mark the release of a collected trilogy coauthored with the late Irish writer Ken Bruen. He hid 25 signed, numbered copies in benches, subway stations, parks, iconic film backdrops like Needle Park and the Empire Hotel, and literary landmarks such as the New York Public Library steps, with locations including Gracie Mansion. Sixteen copies have been found so far, each accompanied by a $100 McNally Jackson gift card. Occasional online clues appear, but most finds occur unexpectedly. The campaign serves as a tribute to Bruen and emphasizes crime fiction in public spaces.
