Since 2022, Mindy Kaling has selected titles for Mindy's Book Studio, a collaboration between Amazon Publishing and Amazon Studios, with an emphasis on authors who are women of color and come from underrepresented backgrounds. Kaling prefers a wide range of genres and particularly enjoys romance and murder mysteries as page-turners. Her reading habit began in childhood during hours spent alone while her parents worked, often in waiting rooms. Several favorite books center on finding the right partner and learning to value earnestness and good character over immature attractions. Kaling acknowledges writing for women even as she continues to learn personally.
