"Previously, I have not enabled DRM on my e-books. My thinking was that I wanted folks to be able to download them to other devices within their own household. However, I think I will enable it on any future e-books. I'm not sure I want people to be able to download them as a PDFs [sic]."
"easier"
"I understand that by not applying DRM, customers who buy and have already bought this book will be able to download it as a PDF or EPUB file."
Amazon will enable DRM-free Kindle ebooks to be provided in EPUB and PDF formats through Kindle Direct Publishing beginning January 20, 2026. DRM remains a publish-time option within KDP and existing titles will not change automatically; KDP account holders must update settings in the KDP portal to alter older works. Removing DRM will allow purchasers to download EPUB and PDF copies. The change may encourage some publishers to enable DRM to prevent direct downloads as alternate formats. Amazon frames the feature as making access "easier," while others note conversion tools already allow format dumping from DRM-free Kindle files.
