"It took me a while to find the right story, and to be in the right headspace. But during a trip to Montana last summer, Maas said she experienced an 'energy vortex' of inspiration in Big Sky, and the next installment poured right out."
"What if it took me more than a thousand pages to tell the story that needed to be told, the arc that I wanted to create from start to finish? What if that took a long time? Like, what if that took beyond the constraints of a single volume, and what does that look like?"
"It's basically gonna be three physical volumes, but it's like one thing all together. No amount of glue in any publisher's factory could ever hold this. So, it's meant to be read ideally as one continuous narrative."
Sarah J. Maas revealed that ACOTAR books 6 and 7 are officially in development, ending a five-year gap since the last installment. After struggling to find the right story and headspace, Maas experienced creative inspiration during a Montana trip last summer. She discovered the next narrative was too expansive for a single book, requiring over a thousand pages to properly tell the story arc. To accommodate this scope, she decided to split the narrative into three physical volumes releasing in quick succession rather than traditional intervals. ACOTAR 6 launches October 27, 2026, followed by ACOTAR 7 on January 12, 2027, with a third concluding volume in development.
