The Trump administration has agreed to a settlement of nearly $5 million to the family of Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by police during the January 6 Capitol attack. Babbitt's family had filed a wrongful death lawsuit seeking $30 million in damages after she was shot attempting to breach the House speaker's lobby. While a court hearing in May indicated progress toward a settlement, the lack of a final agreement means provisions remain to be finalized. The case was set for trial in July 2026.
