Roxbury Library renamed for city's first Black woman TV reporter
Briefly

The Boston Public Library's Roxbury Branch will be renamed to honor Sarah-Ann Shaw, the first Black woman television news reporter in Boston. Mayor Michelle Wu's announcement came after the Board of Trustees voted overwhelmingly for the name change. Sarah-Ann, a beloved Roxbury resident who passed away last year, worked at WBZ-TV from 1969 to 2000. Her daughter expressed gratitude and hope that future generations will learn about Shaw's life and values. The library will now be called the Shaw-Roxbury Branch Library at Nubian Square, pending final approval from the Public Facilities Commission.
"As a Roxbury native, and a BPS graduate she would be pleased and humbled by this honor. Mom was committed to this branch," said Klare Shaw, Sarah-Ann's daughter.
"The Mayor looks forward to lifting up the legacy of Boston's first black television news reporter, giant in journalism, and former member of the Friends of the Roxbury Branch Library," Wu's Chief of Operations Dion Irish wrote.
