R Kelly rushed to hospital after overdosing in prison, lawyers say
Briefly

R. Kelly, the convicted sex offender and singer, was hospitalized after allegedly overdosing on medication while in solitary confinement at federal prison in North Carolina. According to court documents filed by his lawyers, Kelly collapsed and lost consciousness due to an overdose, following a prescribed medication regimen. His hospitalization lasted two days, sparking further legal action, including an emergency motion for home detention. Federal prosecutors, however, opposed this request, citing Kelly's history of sexual abuse and lack of accountability for his actions.
Kelly reportedly collapsed Friday at the federal correctional institute in Butner, North Carolina, and was taken to Duke University hospital after allegedly overdosing on medication.
In a filing, Kelly’s lawyers claim he was given an overdose of medication while in solitary confinement, leading to a near-fatal incident.
During the ambulance ride, Kelly reportedly overheard a guard say, 'This is going to open a whole new can of worms,' after he collapsed in his prison cell.
Federal prosecutors have characterized Kelly as a 'prolific child molester who is unapologetic' about his past actions, opposing any motions for his release.
