In Karachi, Pakistan, a mob attack by radical Islamists resulted in the death of an Ahmadiyya community member. The victim, a 47-year-old car workshop owner, was assaulted by approximately 400 members of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) group. Despite police intervention to disperse the mob, no charges were reported against them. The Ahmadiyya community faces continuous persecution in Pakistan, labeled as heretics by the state, and is denied basic rights such as using Islamic symbols or voting.
One member of the community was killed after the mob identified him as an Ahmadi. They attacked him with sticks and bricks.
[Around] 400 Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers gathered at the hall near the mobile market.
The deceased, who was a known figure of the community, was passing through the area around 100-150 meters away from the place of worship when TLP members recognized him.
The Ahmadiyya are considered heretics by the Pakistani state which has also made it illegal to call them Muslims and for them to use Islamic symbols.
