"The bloodshed must stop and that we unfortunately have to stand here because we have such an incredibly weak government that doesn't dare to draw a red line. That's why we are here, in the hope that it helps."
"All economic and diplomatic means must be used to increase pressure on Israel."
Hundreds of thousands of people marched across Europe and the Middle East to protest Israel's actions in Gaza. Protesters demanded an end to the two-year war that has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians and pushed the enclave toward famine. The largest Western European turnout occurred in the Netherlands, where around 250,000 people filled Amsterdam's Museum Square and marched through the city centre. Demonstrators called on their government to take a harder line against Israel and to stop arms exports. The protests came less than a month before national elections and increased pressure on Dutch leaders. Large demonstrations also occurred in Istanbul, with crowds marching from Hagia Sophia to the Golden Horn and boats displaying Turkish and Palestinian flags.
