Following the acquittal of Karen Read in the murder case of Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, special prosecutor Hank Brennan expressed significant disappointment, highlighting the challenges faced during the lengthy trial process. Read was found not guilty of major charges, only convicted of drunk driving, which disappointed those seeking justice for O'Keefe's family. The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office has remained mostly silent following the verdict, while Brennan lamented the campaign of intimidation surrounding the case, which contributed to its complexities over three years and multiple trials.
"I am disappointed in the verdict and the fact that we could not achieve justice for John O'Keefe and his family," Brennan said Monday.
"District Attorney Michael Morrissey appointed me giving me full discretion to independently assess the case and follow the evidence no matter where it led," Brennan explained.
