Indonesia arrests 12 for trafficking babies to Singapore
Briefly

Twelve suspects were arrested in Indonesia for a human trafficking ring involved in the illegal adoption of over a dozen babies to Singapore. The operation was discovered following a kidnapping report that revealed the trading of 24 infants. Most babies were taken from biological parents in West Java before being transported to Borneo. Authorities rescued six babies and identified roles among the syndicate members, who prepared legal documents for the sales. The babies were sold for a price ranging from 11 million to 16 million Indonesian Rupiah to prospective adopters in Singapore.
The perpetrators took most of the infants from their biological parents in West Java province and are accused of moving them to Singapore for adoption.
Authorities managed to rescue five babies in Pontianak and one in Tangerang. A dozen suspects were arrested across multiple Indonesian cities.
The police officer added that the infants were to be sold for 11 million Indonesian Rupiah to 16 million Indonesian Rupiah to buyers for adoption in Singapore.
The syndicate had been in operation since 2023, with some suspects tasked with finding the babies and others preparing civil registration documents.
