Idaho teen with autism shot by police dies after being removed from life support
Briefly

Victor Perez, a 17-year-old autistic and nonverbal boy, was shot by Idaho police while holding a kitchen knife. Despite no intoxication and having disabilities that affected his movement, officers responded aggressively to a 911 report of a man with a weapon. Within seconds of arriving, they opened fire, resulting in Perez being shot multiple times. After months in a coma without brain activity, he was taken off life support. The incident has sparked outrage among his family and local residents, leading to protests against police actions.
"Everybody was trying to tell the police, no, no. Those four officers didn't care. They didn't ask what was happening, what was the situation."
Video taken by a neighbor showed that Perez was lying in the yard after falling over when four officers arrived and rushed to the fence at the edge of the yard.
Police officials made no apparent effort to de-escalate the situation after arriving at the scene.
