Max Poole's performance in the 2025 Giro d'Italia has shown resilience and skill, particularly during stage 5 when he narrowly avoided a crash while sprinting into Matera. Finishing 26th after being clipped during the race, Poole remains a key contender, currently ranking 7th overall. Despite the incident, Bardet and the Picnic-PostNL team expressed optimism about the race going forward, especially after Poole's strong start and Casper van Uden's previous stage win, showcasing the team's competitive resurgence in this tough cycling event.
Poole started his sprint from around sixth wheel but unfortunately had to check his effort to avoid a potential crash; with the duo ultimately finishing safely in the peloton.
We were there in the last kilometre, but unfortunately, we couldn't sprint the way we wanted to as Max got blocked a bit.
The start in Albania was solid, good to get through and arrive here in Italy.
With the rest day, it wasn't such a big deal to start racing hard early on.
