Ineos Grenadiers faded in the stage 5 team time trial of the Vuelta a España and were unable to carry their early lead to the finish, ultimately placing fifth in Figueres. The British squad set a blistering initial pace and beat the leaders at the first intermediate check, putting six seconds into Lidl-Trek. By the second intermediate point 8.5km later, Ineos had already relinquished seven seconds to Lidl-Trek and continued to lose time en route to the line. The team finished provisionally second, seven seconds slower than Lidl-Trek, before being overtaken by UAE Team Emirates-XRG, Visma-Lease a Bike and Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, who posted faster times to claim higher positions.
