"Pinion Smart-Shift is an electronic shifting system that draws power from the e-bike battery and reduces additional wiring. The Smart-Shift integration enables automatic shifting features, too, like the pre-select and start-select modes. These two modes can automatically shift to your preferred gear when stopping. You can't use this system on Viral's non-electric models due to the absence of speed sensors."
"the MGU is just too heavy and too robust a design for the Wander-ee. It's better suited to a full suspension platform or larger cargo bike," says Steve Domahidy, Viral's founder and owner. " We wanted the Wander-ee to be light, agile, and enjoyable to ride, and the Mahle X20 system delivers all of that in a very well-designed package."
Viral Bikes released the Wander-ee, the brand's first e-bike and a titanium gravel platform. The Wander-ee integrates the Mahle X20 hub motor with Pinion Smart.Shift electronic shifting, drawing power from the e-bike battery and reducing extra wiring. Smart.Shift enables automatic pre-select and start-select modes that can shift to a preferred gear when stopping; those modes need speed sensors and are unavailable on non-electric models. The frame adapts the Wanderer to Mahle hub spacing (142x12 rear, 100x12 front) and favors a light, agile ride rather than a heavier MGU-style hub suited to full-suspension or cargo platforms. A Cane Creek Invert CS fork provides 40 mm of chatter-eliminating travel and the rear suspension retains a simple, non-welded seat tube arrangement carried over from the Wanderer.
