Vingegaard won the 20th and penultimate Giro stage by soloing to victory atop Piancavallo, using a decisive move with 10.6km remaining on the final brutal climb. He absorbed the breakaway riders one by one and extended his overall lead to more than five minutes over Felix Gall. Jai Hindley finished third, 6:25 behind Vingegaard, while Gall took second 1:15 back in a sprint. The 200km route from Gemona del Friuli included two ascents of Piancavallo. The final Sunday stage is a largely processional ride starting and ending in Rome, where Vingegaard is expected to be crowned. He aims to become the ninth male cyclist to complete the Giro-Tour double after winning the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 and the Spanish Vuelta in 2024.
