The Secret to Faster SRAM AXS Shifts Is Just an Update Away
"This update addresses one of the biggest complaints that I, along with many others, have had with the new SRAM AXS Transmission drivetrains: the shift speed. While there is a lot to love about the new derailleur and drivetrain ecosystems, they do not shift nearly as quickly as older AXS drivetrains or the new Shimano Di2 drivetrains. With this latest firmware update, riders can now achieve marginally faster shifts while maintaining the same excellent chain retention and reliability."
"Eagle Transmission Cassette Mapping integrates X-Sync technology into the cassette, allowing for more precise derailleur movements managed by AXS firmware. The shift sequence has specific timings that enable the chain to transition across the cassette while staying fully engaged, allowing you to shift whenever you want, torque be damned. Firmware version 2.53.8 reduces the interval between consecutive derailleur shifts of three or more and improves synchronization with typical cassette rotational speeds."
SRAM released firmware version 2.53.8 for all existing AXS Transmission derailleurs, delivering improved cassette mapping and marginally faster shift speeds while preserving chain retention and reliability. Eagle Transmission Cassette Mapping integrates X-Sync technology into the cassette to enable more precise derailleur movements controlled by AXS firmware. The update reduces the interval between consecutive shifts of three or more cogs and improves synchronization with typical cassette rotational speeds. Shift sequencing now times derailleur positioning and chain engagement to allow shifts under torque without sacrificing retention. The firmware reflects extensive post-launch testing and aims to align ramp profiles with real-world rotational dynamics.
