Tom Pidcock conveyed a surprisingly positive demeanor following a grueling Grand Tour time trial, which many riders dread. Despite finishing 39th and slipping in the general classification, Pidcock remained upbeat, appreciating his performance and the return of joy in racing since switching teams. He found both the time trial and warm-up enjoyable, despite the inherent challenges. Furthermore, he provided insight into the treacherous road conditions faced by riders, which made the event even more demanding. His lighthearted attitude stood out amidst the usual exhaustion seen in competitors.
Pidcock spoke post-stage, you'd have thought the Brit had just been on a Sunday stroll, judging by how cheery he was, despite admitting that it was just under 17 minutes of 'suffering like a dog.'
I enjoyed that time trial, and I enjoyed the warm-up, which sometimes these days are super long and they are not the most fun.
Pidcock explained the tricky road surface, which caused Luke Plapp to crash and Richard Carapaz to maintain his GC hopes.
I think that was pretty good to be honest, it was a pretty good time trial from me.
