The article reviews SRAM's Maven Ultimate brakes, focusing on their impressive power and modulation while highlighting potential initial setup challenges. Although the brakes showcased great performance after their second bleed, early samples had issues like fluctuating bite points. SRAM's transition to mineral oil for the brakes aimed to enhance reliability and reduce maintenance, which proved eventually true. However, later tested models did not experience the same problems, suggesting early production inconsistencies. Overall, the brakes excel in power but require careful installation for optimal function.
The Mavens are impressively powerful and offer great modulation, but seem to be finicky to dial in, especially in early production samples.
After their second bleed the brakes remained consistent and did not require a re-bleed after sitting through the winter.
SRAM claims the advantage of mineral oil is lower maintenance and the ability to retain setup for long periods of time without adjustment.
It's important to point out that my brakes were one of the very first sets sent out to media and later versions performed better.
