Rollins outpaced two-time winner Lauren De Crescenzo in a dramatic finish, employing a strategic approach and drawing inspiration from seasoned competitors. She completed the challenging Black course in 5 hours, 36 minutes, while Wertz emerged victorious in the men’s category with a solo effort in the final two miles, showcasing the grit required to thrive against tough competition.
Rollins said, "I've been working so hard on my sprint too, but I knew getting steam first in the last turn was going to be really, really important."
While reflecting on her strategy, Rollins mentioned, "I actually took a lot of inspiration from Lauren Stevens, because I know she's been doing this a long time, and she's always really smart... I think it paid off."
